Wildebeest of the Great Migration

Northern Tanzania

Serengeti National Park

UNESCO plains, the migration, and one of Africa’s great wildlife theatres.

Serengeti National Park is the jewel of Tanzanian safari and one of the most famous wildlife destinations in the world. Spanning over 14,750 square kilometres, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is known for its golden plains, extraordinary wildlife and the Great Migration.

The name Serengeti comes from the Maasai word siringet, meaning endless plains — a true description of this landscape.

From dramatic predator encounters to vast herds of wildebeest and zebra, every safari here offers unforgettable moments. Whether you visit during the migration or in a quieter season, the park delivers world-class wildlife viewing.

Home to over 70 large mammal species and more than 500 bird species, the Serengeti is one of the best places in Africa to see the Big Five. Open plains, riverine forest, kopjes, woodland and wetland support wildlife all year.

It combines naturally with Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire, Lake Manyara and the rest of the northern circuit.
